Do I need an SIA licence?
Most contract security work needs a front line licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Security guarding, door supervision and public space CCTV surveillance each have their own licence-linked training. To get a licence you must be 18 or over and pass identity and criminal record checks.
You do not need a licence to register your interest, but nobody can do licensable work without one. Find out more on the SIA's licensing pages.
What to expect if we get in touch
Security employers normally check identity, right to work, licence and work history before anyone starts. Many follow BS 7858, the British Standard for screening people who work in secure environments, which usually looks back over at least five years. Have your employment dates to hand, and be ready to explain any gaps. We will tell you what we check before we ask you for anything.
We will never ask you to pay to be considered for work.
Common questions
Can I register before I have a licence?
Yes. Say so on the form. You still cannot do licensable work until the licence is issued.
What do you do with my details?
We use them to consider you for work and to contact you. We keep them for 12 months, and you can ask us to delete them sooner by emailing control@blackdragonsecurity.co.uk. The privacy notice has the detail.
